Mentoring is My Passion

Studies show that Those who have positive mentors succeed at a higher rate than of those who lack mentorship. As a youth I was always surrounded by positive men and women, and Growing up in a single parent home those people were extremely influential in my life. my Uncle Raymond Brown was the most impactful as he served as a positive role model, mentor, and father figure in my life. The support, structure, and discipline he gave and instilled in me was also accompanied by encouragement, love, and care. Watching him do this for myself and other young men and women showed me exactly how to groom young people for success. Today I emulate that support and structure and give it to others, starting with my son and extending it to all the young people I encounter on a daily basis. After spending 3 years of my life wrongfully imprisoned in China, I was finally freed in September of 2019. Since being back on American soil, I have dedicated my time to bettering the lives of other people starting with Mentoring my son and many other young people. My son and I have done many great things together in this short amount of time we’ve been back in each others presence. one experience that we are both proud of, is my being inducted into the Ball State University’s Sports Hall of Fame. The entire day was special for us both as Wendell Jr was able to get a tour of Ball State’s entire campus, meet coaches, players, and university instructors. We attended an elegant dinner with all of the other inductees, some of which were my former teammates. But, nothing was more special than our preparation for the evening ceremony. I was able to teach my son how to tie a tie and make a beautiful knot. I remember being taught how to do this by my uncle and now I was able to teach my son. To instruct him and encourage him as he attempted to get the knot perfect was surreal because we both had waited so long to share such moments. These are the type of moments that I missed being able to make and these are the moments that I will cherish forever. It was an unforgettable time and I will be forever grateful for not just my freedom but to be able to mentor and make memories with the greatest son ever, Wendell L. Brown Jr.

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to coach and play professional football in multiple countries. These have always been great experiences but nothing has been more fulfilling than positively impacting and mentoring young people in these countries. In 2015 I traveled to China to coach football. While traveling the country I begin to do what I am most passionate about, helping others. Aside from coaching football in multiple Chinese cities, I began to help people transform their lives by instructing them to improve their physical fitness along with volunteering my time at locals schools conducting health, fitness, and sports classes. As a guest speaker at the United States Consulate General in Chengdu, China I spoke on the life of a college and professional athlete, and how one is to manage their time, in order to maintain a healthy balance. These were just a few of my experiences while on the continent of Asia prior to being wrongfully imprisoned for 3 years. Since receiving my freedom in September of 2019, I have picked up right where I left off. Positively impacting people by Spreading Love and Light. The Brown Elite Youth Elevation Foundation was created to empower young people and to provide them with the tools and resources to ensure they are successful by giving them the hope that all they strive to achieve can and will be accomplished.
